Where to start....first off I was a little cautious about trying to find a spot in the Catskills to meet with relatives from the Long Island area. With this years lack of snowfall south of the Adirondacks and Vermont I wasn't sure if this was such a good move. Then someone suggested Plattekill and it sounded like if there was going to be snow in the Catskills it would be there. 1,000 feet of non-stop verts was accessed by a t-bar and a triple chair. The trail map looks good with double blacks all over the front face but they skied more like single black diamonds today. Maybe one or 2 of them could go for double black status if it were icy. Conditions today were the furthest thing from icy then I have seen to date this year. With the coastal storm putting down about 8 inches of champaign pow on top of about 2-3 feet that fell in the last couple weeks with no crust and a 4 foot natural base at the top(3,500 feet) it proved to be an epic day. I can't imagine what that place is like on a "Powder Daize" when they open the lifts midweek after a storm of 1 foot or more. Powder was knee deep with thigh deep in the woods which were very skiable and patrol roped nothing off, go where ever you want. Some very nice glades that weren't on the trail map but looked like someone must have cleared something...hmmm.

Face shots were had, over-the-head shots too. Just 2 feet of the lightest snow I have skied in all season.

I cannot remember any of the trails as I didnt' look at the names or a trail map all day but I have to say if anyone is looking for some powder a few days after a storm I would put my bet on this place. While we heard a report of 30 min liftlines at Windham just down the road, the most we waited in was probably 5-7 min around peak time at like 2pm. Trying to find the place alone was a chore but once there, it was all worth it.

Give it a try sometime.
