Down here in north carolina, Sugar Mtn. has been blowing since thursday morning and plans on opening Saturday. Two other ski areas blew snow too. Sugar will probably close within the week though cause of warmer temps. Man, if killington had the cahones that Sugar has, they would have opened that first week of October;-).
Yeah, its NC skiing, but I'll be getting in my first turns before a lot of folks in NE.

Image of Sugar's webcam

That looks real nice for skiing down south. I visited Sugar Mt in October of 1996 for the fall foliage, on the way to Mt Mitchell. Nice country and high elevation, I recall a road sign that proclamed that the town nearby is the highest east of the Mississippi, so you guys get the cold weather when the rest of the south is much warmer.
In reference to Killington your absolutly right, they have lost there skiing soul for pushing the season, but thats okay as we will take our business elsewere. Good luck skiing this season.

I've been impressed a lot by this mountain, cause few years ago, it was open while there was about nothing opened in Quebec... enough amazing considering the latitude !!

Congrats to this real ski area !!

thats right frank. sugar opened for 1 or 2 days, then closed for a couple weeks back in fall, 2001. in the spring of 2001 they almost made it to april after a 2ft storm in late march, but there just wasn't enough skiers. an even more common theme down here.

Yeah, even here, there is not enough skiers anymore, as soon as the sun becomes warmer. It's why some ski areas close a good 2 weeks before the date they could close without making more snow.

You're right, it was in 2001... but I thought they'd been opened longer than 2 days... too far to remind me !
