We ran up and got to ski on six inches of dense, settled snow at Dutchman Flat. As we crested the final rise to the ski area, suddenly there was a sturdy little snowpack perfect for XC skiing. There was a fast track already set so the fortunate folks in Central Oregon started their season a few weeks earlier than average.
