When I saw 6? of new snow outside this morning, I figured we?d have a nice little morning jaunt. Permanent slope side lodging has its perks. I took the following photo when I was out and about on turkey day:
I kept that filed away, because I knew the gully that drops from view would be my next adventure. What I didn?t plan on was the difference in accumulation from my house at 10,500? to the terrain less than 2,000 feet above. This tree holds an accurate measure of what was new this morning:
Yup.
Winter mountain dog had sort of an X-Files look to her when I used the red-eye reduction flash:
She alternated between floundering in my skin track
and chasing snowshoe hares on the way up.
She copies their style, too ?
Jackrabbit
That?s a .mov video that?s short enough for anything above dialup to pull in rather quickly. It does take a few minutes on dialup, but it?s pretty entertaining if you don?t mind letting it load in the background for a bit. I stole a frame from it to give an idea of just how deep she got:
and needless to say, that run we did was, uhhhh, somewhat ok.
