sat. the place was so busy i only did one run in bounds . rode the mt. allen tram five times only ounce was there someone other than a driver . to foggy coming off the summit for the tourists to deal with so 99% of them stayed on the lower lifts . they all seemed very attached to the groomers not venturing far from their sides . and certainly not making it anywhere near no name . so that made it very possible to bounce in and out of the property lines without anyone following (that's of great concern). people get lost out there easily if they don't know where there going . loaded the tram for the last time at 3:30 to close it for the day . skied that run so far off the grid i could see tomorrow . SUNDAY-- arrived 8:45 a.m. not nearly the crowd of sat. no line at all on needles gondola. head off to philpot ridge . nice snow it had snowed a couple of inches of hero snow over night . philpot ridge had been wind polished to the maximum smoothness allowable by nature (not a ripple ) in the hero snow. snowing at a nice rate at this time wind blowing 25 to 30 m.p.h. pretty much the entire ski area except for the very base area is wind polished smooth. strawberry lift was closed from the get go avalanche work on the ridge line going out the sisters ridge needed to be cleared . headed off to john paul chair meet up with my friend dan asst. ski patrol dir. at snowbasin . while riding the chair up he pulled out the radio and announced to the rest of patrol that the no name area was closed for the day. (to much water weight down low on the mtn. out there . to much of an issue to assist an injured person with a sled.). o.k. no out of bounds today !!! today all runs were in the area boundrys . 8 j.p. chairs before lunch all untracked on 100% wind polished hero snow . the best i could find off j.p. chair was actually south facing canyons it was just slightly deeper no less polished . eat lunch at 12:15 at the summit of j.p. chair. finally strawberry gondola opens . how smooth do you really think nature can make it (amazing) ! snowing at a much better pace now . only problem is you can't see twenty feet ! knowing where you were headed was critical off the summit . the few tourist i did see when i first arrived departed as soon as they summited never making a single run in strawberry area . at this point i have the entire strawberry area to myself . 6 gondolas wind polished from summit to base with hero snow . on the sixth ride up the patrol was in the car behind me to close the area for the day.
