Snowbasin 3/9/2014

Started out firm ....off piste was nuked/2 day old baked goods......sun is higher in the sky......you can imagine what it was like. I stuck to the groomers all day long. Started out on John Paul (high speed quad) and moved over to Needles Gondola and eventually spent most of the day at Strawberry Gondola. Love the vertical drop at Snowbasin, makes for some fun, long runs. Although, if you're doing 60+ mph down the mountain, you get down VERY quickly and rack up vertical. My ski partner behind me clocked himself at 65 mph w the Snowbasin app. I was ahead of him and waited. Nothing like race skis on a bluebird groomer day.

No lift lines, beautiful views. Would love to hit Snowbasin on a phenomenal powder day. The terrain looks phenomenal. Maybe some day if i'm not enticed by the goods at Alta/Bird \:D/

Spring is here!!!

Sun effect was the reason admin talked me out of Powder Mt. Friday night for Saturday's skiing. Given that Mineral Basin's new snow was not refrozen Saturday morning, it might not have been that bad. But with widespread softening even on west exposures like West Rustler and Regulator Saturday afternoon, I would not have wanted to be at a lower altitude Utah resort on Sunday.

The bottom of Mineral Basin is something on the order of 1000' higher than the top of Powder Mountain (excluding the cat served Lightening Ridge and James Peak).

True, but the run I skied in Mineral was SE facing, which can offset a LOT of elevation in March. Just ask anyone in Jackson Hole. :stir:
