Snowbasin finally goes for it

It makes sense for them to do the development but for me, the reason to go to Snowbasin is the lack of crowds. If they had crowds like the Cottonwood Canyons do then I'd take the higher elevation and higher snowfall in LCC/BCC. Then again

If approved, Snowbasin's build-out plan is expected to take 50 years or more, depending on market conditions. Snowbasin is planning a number of public information sessions about the proposal in July.

It'll probably be quite some time before crowding really becomes an issue. Any info on the additional terrain they were talking about opening by Strawberry?

I saw the master plan document while writing the story. It's primarily low elevation and low angle, going into the drainage between Strawberry and the Trapper's Loop Road. A new entrance south of the intersection between Trapper's Loop and Snowbasin Road will provide a road to descend to the drainage, where a new parking facility and base area would be located. Aside from doubling the length of already out-of-bounds runs out near Cathedral it won't have much impact for more skilled skiers.

I don't see much change here from the skier's perspective, especially in the short term. Terrain is still better than anything in BCC or the Park City group, crowds still way below LCC. Choose the right days to ski Snowbasin accordingly and you won't be disappointed.

In 2004, I saw the then-current Master Plan. Curious how it's changed over the years -- something tells me (like most expansions these days), it's been cut back.

It also sounds like they are following the 'iron out the issues ahead of time and get buy-in' route to planning which in these times can be slower but way less costly.

it won't be an issue for awhile. but i would see both of those counties putting up very little issue to any idea of expansion ... ( tax revenue) those places won't be cheap ( basing my thought on ski area development ) . supposed to be a couple of golf courses going in too .
