started the day the same as any other, a couple warm up at alta and today through the check point into mineral basin . admin, tele jon, rdwore, and myself. to see what we would see , wind scoured snow was the main theme , with the ocassional sugar pocket to soften things up , mineral opened yesterday for the season , and really needs a lot more snow for it to be what we know and love, seems snowbird was effected by the wind alot more than alta especially on the upper mtn. not so much ounce you ski down to mid mtn.

Nice photos. The snow looks a bit thin in Mineral Basin, but not as bad as I would have thought. I'm sure it is nice to have some new terrain to ski. It seems odd that they opened it up for this weekend as you guys haven't had any new snow - unless they wanted to spread out the crowds a bit.

Did they install the mat in the entrance to Great Scott this year due to the lack of snow, or is that an area that usually gets scraped down to the dirt/rocks?

wind hammered snow covers the majority of mineral right now , really need a bunch more feet of snow to be made right , all be it could be worse , everything could look like lower chamonix chutes thank god it doesn't. yes ,that stretch of land on the approach to great scott usually gets some scrapping during the early season , but not like this there's been no new snow to go back in there. snowbird had to do something to try to entice more people in there , that's the best skiing on the hill
