Snowbird/Alta in April

Looking at spnding a week at Snowbird starting Apr 15 to Apr 22.

What is the liklihood of new snow and what other areas would still be open that late in the season?

Thanks!

That practically requires a crystal ball. Alta will likely be closed, too, for the majority of that period. You're likely looking at just The Bird for that week.

As said before, it's a toss up. As was shown last season, the deep snow can fall at any time in April. In 1986 we skied for a week at Snowbird during the last week of April. Most of the week it was so warm and sunny that the snow was really sticky after 1 PM. Yet on April 29, it started snowing at 10 AM and dropped 33" by the time the lifts stopped and 39" by 10 PM. Epic day! The next year it snowed the same amount on April 29.

Good luck.

Cheers,
Jeff

I had the same experience as Lookn. Hit the Bird during the 3rd week of April (I think in 2002) and had a couple of days of 50s at the base, then a 3' dump and some of the best powder skiing of my life. I think you can be assured of a deep base, but the quality of the snow that late in the year is hit and miss. Most of the time the North facing slopes will be ok and you'll probably get some nice corn if you play it right.
