Day 60: Powder last weekend, corn this weekend

It was a beautiful day on the hill today. Too bad I got up there too late. I had planned to leave at 10:30, but an unforeseen situation kept me at home until just after noon. Regardless, it was too good a day to pass up, and I managed to catch the gang (Skidog, Bobby Danger, The Other Bobby D, Dale, Pat, Mark and Tele Jon) having lunch on the Tram Plaza.

Today wasn't the least bit busy. Trams were walk-on even though Peruvian has re-closed. Afternoon snow down low was sticky, but Great Scott was a highlight of the day.

We wrapped it up with Bobby's Last Run Protocol: High Boy.

We rode back up the Tram and skied through the Chamonix gate onto a long traverse beneath the Chamonix Chutes to the Baldy Express chair, where we took off our skis and started booting up to Sugarloaf Pass to enter Snowbird East.

We regrouped for a minute or two at Sugarloaf Pass...

...but we didn't dare stay there for long. Border Patrol is busy enforcing the new immigration law, and we all had skis, which they're racially profiling for. We weren't ready to get deported so we pushed on into a deserted Alta.

We pushed out across the High T, intending to ski West Rustler. It was way past its prime, however, too manky at 3 p.m., so we continued on through Piss Pass...

...to High Boy.

Now, High Boy wasn't what we were expecting at all. It was manky despite its due north exposure, and covered in roller balls. It wasn't what another guy expected, either, for he was 50 yards from the top after booting all the way from the Wildcat parking lot when all eight of us came over the top.

We chatted for a moment, then headed down -- occasionally being spanked by our own roller balls.

However, there's plenty of smooth, untracked snow there that should corn up nicely for tomorrow -- if I get there earlier before it manks out.

But for now, it's off to celebrate Bobby Danger's birthday at Tiburon.
