Day 61: Corn perfection.
I really only took one giant run today, but the quality made it all worthwhile.
I arrived at Snowbird late morning just as Bobby Danger, Tele Jon and The Other Bobby D were returning in Bobby's truck from Alta. They found West Rustler still rock hard and east-facing Backside and Greeley Hill beyond its prime. The Other Bobby D and Tele Jon went down to the Tram Plaza while we took Bobby's truck back up to the Wildcat lot at Alta. When we rejoined we grabbed a quick bite to eat on the Tram Plaza before loading the Tram. It was in the mid-50s under a blazing sun and without a breath of wind.
Once again, we headed straight for Snowbird East.
Once again we hiked the short bootpack to reach Sugarloaf Pass.
As we reached the top of Collins we bumped into Alta Marshall Tom searching for crime in all the wrong places. It's a tough job, Tom has.
As we stood there we saw a couple of people ready to drop into Main Chute.
After chatting with Tom for a while, we pushed out onto the High T, pleased to find that in the intervening 90 minutes that West Rustler had cooked to smooth corn perfection.
West Rustler was positively divine -- an inch or so of smooth, untracked corn atop a completely supportable base.
Much too soon, we were back at the Wildcat lot ready to carpool back to Snowbird.
And so ends The Other Bobby D's ski season in the Wasatch. After spending nearly the entire winter and spring here he returns home to Saratoga Springs, N.Y. this Tuesday. But mark our words -- he'll be back.
