Day 59: Cruisin' in the sun

Today was a day to spend skiing with Mrs. Admin. I wanted as pleasant experience for her as possible, and when I awoke it was a nippy 19 degrees at the base of Snowbird, so we sat at home until 11 am when mid-Gad rose 14 degrees in an hour -- a sure sign that things were softening.

Our timing was perfect. It was still a bit crusty and stiff at the base at 11:45, but softening beautifully in Mineral. Mrs. Admin, The Kid and I spent a few runs back there until the front side began to soften, and took a run into Gad Valley via Mark Malou Fork before a few laps on Peruvian, descending Chip's to Blackjack and Whodunit to a late lunch, by which time Whodunit was turning to semi-sticky glue.

Lunch on the Tram Plaza, in the sun with Bobby Danger, Marc_C, Skidog, Tele Jon and a couple of randoms from NYC, of course, was a blast. Refueled by pulled pork, a beer and a latté, it was time to head back out.

The whole group took a couple of laps on Peruvian before the high-test crowd headed for the Tram, and Marc_C, Mrs. Admin and I took a few more runs on Peruvian before wrapping the day with beers in the parking lot. Life's good.

Next weekend will be a weekend off from skiing as I wean myself off of skiing and into summer recreation with a desert backpacking trip. Ski season will resume the weekend thereafter.

After finding most of Snowbird rather crusty if not outright frozen early Saturday (I saw a snowboarder literally slide most of the way down Big Emma on his butt because he simple couldn't catch enough backside edge to get up on his feet), I delayed getting up there until around 11:00 AM today. It was a good call. After parking at Creekside I did a couple of runs top to bottom on Gadzoom. The bright sun had started to do a good job of softening all the groomed trails. I met a lovely young lady on my third ride up and we decided to run over to the Peruvian lift and the tunnel and check out Mineral Basin. The sun had definitely done its work there and things were pretty soft. We skied the basin for about an hour and then went back over toward Creekside for some turns until thirst got the best of us. A couple of beers on the sunny patio was a nice way to finish out day 65 of my season. :D

The fashion police are out again. As of last week they won't have my 1997 vintage red jacket to kick around anymore.

How will we know who you are next time you come to the Wasatch?

Haven't seen Marc1 in a half dozen years and I don't remember seeing any photos. How long has the beard been gone?

Since around late October of last year. Like Admin's, mine was becoming increasingly gray.
