I'm still waiting for a constructive answer to the question about whether enough of this was predicted in the middle of last week for someone to come out from a day's driving distance (or the $229 airfare from NYC) in expectation of several powder days.
Yes, it was.

Absolutely.

Thank you. As I've mentioned, this scenario will be one of my top priorities in retirement.

This sounds like Jay Peak on Saturday...
I thought the easterners here analyzed that very well last week. Jay was the call Thursday, maybe Friday with the fresh powder, while Sugarloaf was the best weekend option for more open terrain and lift capacity.

I'm guessing limitations in Snowbird's terrain were due mostly to avy control issues. But there is no excuse IMHO for full maze plus across the plaza tram lines if there are high speed chairs sitting idle.

EXACTLY...but most people that showed up at Jay didn't read Firsttracksonline last week. Jay felt like the new Killington, attracting skiers all the way down to New Jersey. I guess Sugarloaf is too far?

Probably, for most folks from NJ. According to Google maps, Jay is 397 miles from Orange Nj, giving a 6hr30min trip. Sugarloaf is "only" 454 miles, but thanks to the extensive time on slow 2-lane backwoods roads, is nearly a 9 hr trip. And that's without the obligatory stops.

IMHO this is the time of year when Snowbird shines, when chairs sit idle. If they were running the place would get tracked out like it was Jan or Feb. I don't, actually I wont ski the Bird during big dumps during mid winter because the lines are just way to long and the competition is way to big. I feel like the lift lines are much more reasonable at Alta. I save all of my 30 Snowbird days for April 12 and after. Actually this year I skied the Bird twice during the mid winter. Also when lifts don't run it allows you to ski those epic lines your remember forever. Like today, untracked and alone on top of Gad2 on a Bluebird morning after 7 feet of snow. This just doesn't happen mid winter.

One last thing, 4 years ago when I lived in Long Beach, NY I was trying to find a mountain town that worked for me. I thought Jackson, Vail, Breckenridge, Tahoe, Salt Lake City, or Denver. I ended up in Park City, UT and it was the greatest decision of my life. Since I've been here in PC we've had one bad winter, every other year we have had between 350 and 510 inches of snow. When things are crazy in the Cottonwoods, we ski 1000 foot shots of untracked sidecountry at the Canyons. In my opinion you ski the storm at Alta but as soon as that sun pops out you hit 9990 at the Canyons and take a 10 -30 min hike up Dutch Draw, Square Top, Mc Donald's Draw, or West Monitor. The amount of TRUE untracked pow can not be beat there.

some of this i think belong in a different forum !! of course it's better to come to utah if one has the time to drive 7 hours i would think one would fly five and a half for seven feet at a fairly reasonable rate non-stop .. taking your time remember there were some other nice lines that were skied out there but lower tiger tail was the platinum run . right probably just over an hour bull s--- time needs to be figured in stopping and gawking at the natural beauty around not disturbed by humans in any fashion other than the silent lift going over head !!! typically it does slow down this time of year and the bird mngmnt. need to adjust their thinking a bit there's a much larger crowd here later in the skiing year cause they moved here so they wouldn't have to travel other than to snowbird . things have certainley got alot more popular cause when i moved here this time of year when something like this happened i'd still be alone . i won't type anything about the maritime issue where did that come from .. how did all this other ---t come about from a report about powder skiing one day. reads like some people need to get a distemperment shot at the vets...
