Between family- and job-related duties combined with the dog poop weather back east, this is the latest I've started a season since beginning downhill skiing 15 years ago, but I finally got Day 1 as part of a long weekend in Salt Lake City.
I'm staying with my former NJ mountain-biking partner Bryan, who has now permanently relocated to his Solitude condo:
We got to the Apex lift a few minutes after it opened:
The groomers were nice and soft, so we warmed up on Eagle and the obligatory Diamond Lane:
... then clucked around the off-piste. While it was tough to find much untracked snow without some reconnaissance (didn't make it into Honeycomb), I had fun getting my ski legs back in shape in the bone-dry chop.
Today was the first time I've ever seen the Moonbeam lot completely full with overflow on the road, but everything was ski-on regardless.
I finished with a couple runs off the new high-speed summit lift, complete with a new patrol shack. Personally, I think that they should've replaced Sunrise and left Summit as a slow poke.
I like the new (to me) trail map at the Honeycomb entrance:
Heading north tomorrow to the place with the fancy-pants bathrooms.
