Day 33: Brrrrrr

Buddy Rich Weir from the New York Daily News arrived a couple of days in advance of a press trip to stay with us and ski. His flight landed mid-morning, and we headed straight for Solitude.

Cold air arrived Friday with a vengeance, and temperatures on Saturday struggled to reach 8 degrees. There was fortunately no wind, otherwise it would've been unbearable. It was cold enough for ice crystals to fill the air under otherwise deep blue skies.

Conditions varied widely. Some aspects that we skied, including Black Forest and Navaronne, held a stiff sun crust from the warm air midweek beneath a few inches of new snow. Others such as Voltaire in Honeycomb Canyon sported untracked boot-top powder. We had a blast.

And holiday weekend? What holiday weekend? We skied right onto the chairs all afternoon.
