Spring conditions in Utah Apr 1-5 ??????

I hear is is VERY warm. Will there be anything left April 1-5? Do they typically get any storms in late March/early April?

Would any resort be better than others under these conditions?

I am leaving for SLC this weekend. There is still more than 100 inches on the ground at Alta. It is supposed to get cooler soon. I know there will be enough snow, but conditions are probably going to be spring-like

Too late to change my mind. We will see when we get there. It should be uncrowded though.

Well, I'll be anxious to hear how you both make out as we leave for Utah april 10th...... I'm confident there will be plenty of snow left for us to play in.... and probably better than alot of what I've skied this season here on the east coast!

I'm anxious too because I'm headed to Summit County Colorado for a week starting April 4. It has been very warm with about 5 inches last night. Base ranges from 40 to 60 inches in Summit Co. and Vail. I'd love a few good dumps (of snow) there before I arrive.

I just returned from 4 days at Alta/Snowbird last week. Tuesday-Thursday 4/23-4/25 were warm and sunny and pretty slushy, but still fun to ski. There were a few rocks poking through on the steeper slopes. On Friday 4/26, there was around 16" of new snow on the ground and conditions were nothing short of fabulous. And they got another 9" after I left.

I am just returning from 9 consecutive days of skiing in Utah. In a word: Summertime! Temperature around 70 in SLC and above 50 in the mountains.

Corn snow and spring slush were the norm. Cover was good, however, except on ridges. I understand why most areas close on Easter Monday.

In town, golf courses are open, cherry trees are blooming and people are mowing their lawns. We looked really odd coming in the hotel wih our skis as people were getting out in sandals and shorts.

Still, I enjoyed it. But I will never again schedule a ski trip this late in the season.

"Climate is what you expect and weather is what you get." This has been an abnormally warm March/April in most of the West, as noted in my FTO reports of March 21-27. Colorado's conditions are now considerably better than that week with ongoing new snow.

And tomorrow is the 5th anniversary of my career powder day on skis: http://www.skisocal.org/cgi/ski.pl/detail/144;98-99

Spring skiing is greatly underrated by most skiers. And if you choose an appropriate resort with high altitude, north facing steeps (like Mammoth or Alta/Snowbird) you'll rarely be disappointed.
