Good story and a couple of pictures in the Tahoe Daily Tribune on skiing Firebreak and Palisades side country area at Heavenly. http://www.tahoedailytribune.com/articl ... /976729166

They need another 8 foot storm like they had early Jan. to make it possible. I was planning to go up tonight, but my teenager has a dance tomorrow night so it looks like we are going up early Sunday morning and coming back Monday afternoon.

I was at Heavenly Sun. 1/20 and Mon. 1/21 and was surprised how good the coverage was. The guy who lives across the street from our cabin said Firebreak and Palisades are already skiable and gave me some tips on finding the best powder and getting back to gondola. On our way up Kingbury (NV 207) Sunday morning to one of Heavenly Nevada bases, I showed my wife and friend where Palisades came out to the highway in case I skied it and wanted a pickup at the end of the day. But conditions for going alone down an area I'd never skied below and is not patroled were not acceptable. There were strong winds, snow in the PM and my toes were getting cold. I will post try to post more soon, but I'm tired from my best of day skiing so far this year followed by too long drive home.
