lack of legit mogul run at loon sent us north to stowe, despite the more snow acc form the storm this past week
stowe on wed- just about all open except upper starr and goat... a few like hayride and centerline were closed for snowmaking purposes but are essentially open ( should be on the weekend)... we hit the gondy for 2 on perry and gondy line... perfect packed pow... jumped to the quad for a few on groomers lord and the blues over there... gulch had decent sized bumps but sparse coverage...rode the gondy all afternoon and hit chin clip hard.. great bumps, great packed pow snow quality all the way but very sparse.. grass and rocks on some troughs .. bad idea with nice skis, but lots of fun with beaters..no ice or hardpack as of wed afternoon... glades were skiable off the nosedive, but again, need about 12 to 18 for worry free... crowds were not bad at all... ski onto all lifts except between 11 and 1 at gondy which was about 3 car wait...nightmare drive home on rt 15 in a blizzard was the only downer
cannon on thurs... the supposed downhill circus event taking place at loon sent us to cannon on thurs.. great call by us... great packed pow w/ occas spots of hard pack... we hit the quad for a few and then hit the zoomer triple all day alternating between avalanche ( groomed pp ) and zoomer ( pp bumps ) and rocket (pp).. we didn't bother with the upper part off the tram except for a run on hardscrabble... again.. like stowe, great snow quality but sparse and beater skis only , please!!!!!.. rest on cannon's blue's and groomers were in good pp shape. no lift lines all day.. ski onto all lifts... looneyville on friday... had too work today ( sat ) so a 4am rise and shine drive back to the urban jungle made loon the call along with the apparent cancelation of the downhill event...hardpacked, boilerplate on all of the lower mountain blues... we hit the quad for a few mogul turns on the blues and bailed to the double for the rest of the day... the bear bypass had decent bumps,, we set up on triple trouble and double dipper which, after a couple of side slip runs, had decent pp bumps. the amazing part about loon on fri was the dramatic difference in snow on the mountain.. upper half had decent ( but changing fast pp.. lower half was all gran and hardpacked fake ( scaped off badly)... bumps on lower flume were only for super legit bumpers... large erratic lines with large areas of boilerplate between troughs... i think they really got in trouble last night because it started snowing about 2 pm and then it started to rain.. got warm overnight.. at 4am this morning there was that nasty glazed feeling all around lincoln.. beware weekend warriors
