Spring has arrived to Mount Mansfield. I got to Stowe around 8:30 and it was still below freezing at the base. Things didn't start softening up until around 9:30. I made a run through Chapel Woods, which I'll always enjoy - it was where I was introduced to tree riding. At around 10:00, I met up with the instructor horde that was working, but they all wanted to go to the park and I didn't, so I rode by myself. Made a few runs through Tres Amigos, three or four laps through Partridge (my current favorite, each run was on a slightly different line), a run through "Old Goat", and a trip through Bypass (traversing out further than I usually do, maybe I ended up at Stephanie's Chute) and down through Nosedive Glades. I did a couple of gondola runs too, a Perry Merrill with various woods options and a trip out past the bench. By 1:30 or so, the wax I had on my board stopped being effective, so I called it a day. No hiking to the nose or chin(s) <IMG SRC="http://www.firsttracksonline.com/discus2/clipart/happy.gif" ALT=":)"> for me since I was going solo, I was already pushing my luck going where I had been solo. Great spring snow all morning. A few bare spots have developed on the trails, but nothing too bad yet. A few thin spots in the woods too. Baby tree wells are developing, snow bridges are getting thinner, drainages are becoming places to avoid, but there's still soo much good skiing and riding it's crazy.
