Sunday I jumped in the car around 5:00 AM and headed on up. What a surprise when I arrived at at the base. First, all that snow from last weekend was pretty much gone. There was almost as many green spots as snow. Second, there was no one there. It seemed like the area was closed. There was maybe15 cars parked near the base lodge. And walking through the lodge at 9:30 in the morning there was maybe two people in there getting ready to ski. Stowe employees vastly outnumbered the skiers and riders. By 10:30 or 11:00 a huge crowd of maybe 100 was on the mountain. Don't get me wrong, having the mountain pretty much to myself was great, but it was seemed almost eerie..

As for the skiing, early morning on snow making trails was pretty good with some nice corn. By noon things were turning to mush and staying away from bumps and sticking to the groomers allowed for beautiful bgi GS turns. The kind you come two feet off the ground with each turn. Lots of fun. I tried one foray into the trees but the snow in their was pretty rotten with lots of rocks and roots showing everywhere. What a difference from last weekend. All in all though, it was a fun day with beautiful sunny skies for most of the day. They say they're going to be open until April 21 but considering their current conditions and the upcoming warm weather I don't know if they can make it that long.
