Ho, hum, another powder day.

What, you say? Were you near a radio, listening to flood reports?
Were you sitting next to a window all day, watching it rain?

Sorry, wrong window. Should have sat near one by Mount Mansfield. But
then, you would have been skiing, not sitting.

OK, truth be told, we're not talking big powder. It started out at
about 1/4". But it grew from there, hitting maybe 3 or 4 inches by 4
PM. And sure, it was a wet snow, and we got plenty wet enjoying
ourselves. But enjoy ourselves we did.

It wasn't snowing when we started skiing, somewhere around 10:30.
First two runs were rather dry, in fact. Snow was soft and corny,
with just a trace of fresh at the summit. But by noon, snow was
falling, and by noon thirty, it was falling in earnest. By 1, it was
just plain dumping. And there was no more than 20 or so snow riders
there to enjoy it.

By 2 PM, the snow surface had transformed into a velvety smooth
carpet of remarkable resiliency. Good turns were to be found
everywhere, tracks were filling in behind us. Highlights included
Nosedive, Bypass Chutes, Slalom Glades, Rim Rock, lower Perry Merrill
and Gonadlier, bits of woods here and there. The high glades were
truly wintery: the snow cover was still seemingly bottomless.
