As I left Burlington it was drizzling. The rain got harder for a while, then lighter. It was hard to tell what would be happening on the mountain. The parking lot, or more to the point the jackets of the skiers coming back to their cars, told me that it was going to be a wet, ice covered day.

I didn't care, though. $25 tickets and new tele equipment was enough motivation to get out on snow.

The decision to ski was the right one. I found the snow very forgiving with almost no ice. The crowds were driven away by the rain and by noon the mountain felt empty.

The new tele equipment was very much to my liking. Crispi CX4 boots, Elan SXC 15 skis, and Voile bindings on decent riser plate. The skis definitely liked to turn! I wasn't sure if they would be too wide in the tips, but they worked out just fine.

I ran into a surprising number of people on teles, actually. There was a group of four or five that I met up with three times, and another guy skiing alone - also testing out new eqipment - that I took a few runs with. At about 2, when I was on my last run, I think the number of people on teles might have outnumbered the people on alpine skis.

All in all a good day. My legs have that great "I skied yesterday!" feeling this morning.

Pray for snow - this r@!n is depressing.
