Set out for Sugarloaf Saturday morning, and were suited up and ready to hit the slopes by 9:30. Snowmaking was in progress on Boardwalk and Spillway (the only two trails open) as the temps. were in the high-20s, and the guns were also running on what I thought was King's Landing (hoping, I think, to get the SuperQuad running in time for the T'giving crowds).

The snow was good, especially on Spillway, where one could find excellent skiing to the far skier's right, reveling in the cast-off snow from the trail's center. Coverage was spotty, with only half the width of the trails being covered. (This same weekend last year the identical trails were open, but were fully covered.) Base depth was also an issue -- although there was probably 2' on Spillway, Boardwalk only had mere inches, and numerous waterbars turned that otherwise mellow green circle trail into a blue square adventure.

On Sunday we awoke to find spring had arrived in its full glory and the skiing was quite enjoyable. The feared Slurpee conditions never materialized, and some nice bumps developed on Upper Spillway.

On both days we had exhausted all the possibilities by 2pm and retired for a long soak in the outdoor hot tub. Dinner at Hugs on Saturday was excellent as always.

All told, a great opportunity to work the kinks out and get back into skiing shape for when winter finally arrives.
