After at least a week in the 80s this comes through this a.m. from the NWS:

Special Weather Statement
Statement as of 3:30 AM MDT on October 01, 2008

... A significant Pacific storm expected to move across the region
this weekend...

A potent Pacific system is expected to impact the region this
weekend. Widespread precipitation is expected as the system moves
across the region throughout the weekend. The associated cold
front is forecast to move across northern Utah late
Saturday... reaching southern Utah by Sunday morning. Snow levels
will fall quickly behind the cold front to near 7000 feet. Snow
levels are expected to continue to fall throughout the day
Sunday... reaching near 6500 feet by Sunday afternoon across
northern and central Utah. This strong system is expected to
bring the first snow storm to the higher terrain of
northern... central and even parts of southern Utah Sunday.
Precipitation is forecast to slowly come to an end late Sunday
into Monday.

Those participating in outdoor activities this weekend should
prepare for adverse weather conditions... especially if venturing
into the higher terrain.

Oh, you're funny. Anything less than 3 or 4 feet in there would mean major rockage, and if by some miracle that were to happen (which it won't) that slop would be so wet that it would slide just by breathing on it.

That's interesting. That's not the story I've been hearing... Lots of blow in there, and it bonding to the rocks. Some bird patrollers were talking about going up there, after 24 inches or so.

jeesh rob!
simmah down! you'll have plenty of good turns to get soon. you could certainly find much better skiing on many grassy underneath slopes that people won't be talking about skiing this weekend. skiing main with no base in potential glide/climax avy conditions would hardly be classified as good skiing. "shralping the gnar" in true lcc form would be fitting, but too much consequence to bother.
enjoy the new snow while we sing in the rain out here.

Amen, brutha!

Weather.com is predicting 47/20 for South Tahoe Sat. with 30% chance of Rain/Snow. I'm hoping for Veteran's Day at Kirkwood.

"MODERATE RAIN WILL MOVE INTO THE NORTHERN SIERRA FRIDAY AFTERNOON WITH HEAVY RAIN EXPECTED ALONG THE SIERRA FRIDAY NIGHT. SNOW LEVELS WILL BEGIN ABOVE 8500 FEET FRIDAY NIGHT BEFORE FALLING BELOW 7000 FEET IN THE LAKE TAHOE BASIN SATURDAY EVENING. SEVERAL INCHES OF SNOWFALL IS EXPECTED IN THE SIERRA ABOVE 8000 FEET... WITH A LIGHT ACCUMULATION POSSIBLE DOWN TO 7000 FEET. RAIN MAY CHANGE TO SNOW AT LAKE LEVEL SATURDAY EVENING. HOWEVER... LITTLE OR NO SNOW ACCUMULATION IS EXPECTED. "

Better keep that streak alive on the one cm, or you'll be spending the $$$ to fly off to the WROD's again. :P
