We decided to take a side trip from SLC 5 hours northwest. Never been to SV before so it seemed like a good thing to do during the driest part of our trip.
It was 45 degrees and the sun was blazing. We started with the wide open groomers that SV is known for. Wow it was fun and fast. The green runs on Seattle Ridge are steeper than any black diamond runs at okemo and are more than twice as long. The consistent pitch on wide open groomers reminded me of Skyward at Whiteface, only with nice soft immacculately groomed with no ice. The ungroomed black diamond runs suffered a little from the low snow. There were no rocks to speak of but there was quite a bit of vegetation sticking through. The bumps softened very nicely and by noon the corn harvest began.
We found one nice glade but the snow was littered with pine needles and pine cones. We skied Exhibition and Holiday, runs that we had heard were the most difficult terrain. We didn't find it difficult at all and just enjoyed the continuous perfect soft bumps that went on and on. There were not many people skiing the bumps. The majority of skiers here are over 60 and just cruisin on the groomers. We didn't find any terrain that got us too excied, though we made the most of what SV had to offer.
All the moguls and long cruisers with so much vertical coupled with fast lifts with no lift lines really wore us out.
Soaked in a very large round hot tub before going to the Pioneer in Ketchum for steak dinner.
We may not have had deep snow, but we certainly had some pretty good skiing in a beautiful place.
