I skied Sunapee today for the first time as a promo for work and was pleasntly surprised!I had mistakenly stereotyped that mountain as a Cranmore or Shawnee peak or Gunstock but found out it's a neat mountain with lots of character and a beautiful new baselodge. It's vertical isnt that far off from Attitrash, mabey 250' and has even got a couple glades now that Okemo is managing it.The drive over was windy and I was worried the lifts would be delayed and the trails would get scoured.Well the lifts were going and packed powder prevailed with even a little fluff if you were adventerous! The wind wasnt bad at all, although it was getting colder as the day went on.The Sunrise Bowl area had the best snow all day but is serviced by a slow triple which I bet gets wicked liftlines on weekends(although it was ski on today). The Summit Glade was good and had nice POW but some crusty crowns on the bumps poking through. It also had a pitch to skiers left that made for some odd shaped bumps and lines that diddnt allow for a smooth flow.Sunrise Glade kind of reminded me of Timbucktu at JayPeak, just not as big, with nice white birches.Sunrise Bowl is properly named.Definatly the place to hit first with abundant sunshine early. The trails all over followed the contour of the mountain and reminded me of Lynx at the 'Cat with narrow sweeping blind turns.I think the find of the day was second to last run befor the apres ski party, when we decided to take the North Peak Triple which only runs halfway. ?? Anyway they have a trail called Goose Bumps which runs right under the chair and had the most perfectly farmed bumps(that werent volkswagons)I think i've ever seen in my life.I had read a post by joegm saying there werent any good designated intermediate bump trails around.Well Sunapee has it listed as a double black but it's not even close. If thats a double black and Face Chutes at Jay are a single then i'm taking up snowboarding. Not likely. The bumps were absolutely perfectly spaced and shaped to rip it right down the zipper line, and there were probably6-8 lines all the carbon copy of it's neighbor. They werent baby bumps by any stretch and in firmer conditions would prove daunting. But today they were great!Free skiing, free lunch, free beers and munchies!Life can sometimes be good.
*))
((*NHPH
