Day 34: Low-key

That, in a phrase, defines Sundance. With the Crocker family in town we headed south to Provo Canyon to make turns at Sundance.

Sundance is the lowest ski area in the state, and is also shadowed by Mt. Timpanogos that towers above the ski area. They thus have only a 75-inch base, half of some other Utah ski areas, but Sundance's topography means that the entire place is eminently skiable with that amount of snow.

We started out in Far East, skiing a surprisingly steep line right back to Pipeline, the gully that leads back to the Flathead Chair. We then cruised around the Arrowhead summit chair for a while before an exceptional lunch in Founder's Grill.

After lunch we kept yo-yo'ing Arrowhead and Flathead. The snow consistency on the south-facing terrain was really not what we were looking for after two days of sunshine, but there's plenty else to keep skiers of any ability entertained for a day. The place truly has an aesthetic charm.

Again, I'll work up a video this week from footage shot on all three days this weekend.

Thanks for the report--don't see too many about Sundance. We've thought about driving down to try this resort. If that's what the crowds and liftlines (more appropriately, the lack thereof) are like on a holiday weekend, I can imagine what it's like on a weekday.

The lower lift is in fact congested and slow. But the 2 upper lifts spread people around well and waits up there were short. This is of course on a peak holiday with good snow and fairly nice weather.

We only skied 14,800 vertical but they weren't cheap. There are seriously steep lines off both of those upper chairs. FYI area #137 for me, and far superior to the previous 2 additions.

With all the above accolades (as well as the beautiful photos), we've gone from "thinking about" going to "almost certainly" going.
