Sunday @ Mt Bachelor (Powder Day)

I'm just dumbfounded how the snow never really dumps here but always finds a way to build up. I skipped yesterday as it still seemed to be rather thin and not worth ending a season before it starts. But this morning I knew it'd be good as it rained for quite a while in town before turning to sleet. See report:

I buckled, the heck with safe and sane nordic skiing, I have to taste some gravity! I grabbed my trusty 158 Malolo pow board and started hiking.

Near the top of the Cinder Cone, our dependable resource for easily accessed pow turns right out of the parking lot.

Here is a view of Pine Martin Chair and Thunderbird run underneath. You can see some snowmaking guns and this is where the skiing will be on opening weekend if we don't get more snow. Red Chair is in the foreground.

I love the snow on the cone, it's like champagne. These are schubwa tracks and it was bubbily. Notice the skier starting down in the top of the picture.

I met this fellow in the parking lot and we kept running into each other. I snapped a couple pics and his name is Tyler Winterholler (is that a great name for a skier or what?). A new ski buddy.

This older gentleman got four really nice powder runs in this morning!

Way to get at it! Looks like some really nice snow to be had. Cant wait for our first real storm in mammoth, want to make some powder turns soon too!
