Tahoe snow on the last day of Summer 2013

I worked on 9/21 in the unusually heavy rain for Sept. that fell before the Stanford/Arizona State game. OpenSnow reported that 3-4" of snow fell at higher elevations to the West of Lake Tahoe. I checked weather.com and my iPhone Sunday morning and saw low of 21/22 (with a high of 68) was predicted for South Lake Tahoe Tuesday when I needed to be back in the Bay Area for appts. The water at my family's cabin there was still on and heaters had been off since early summer so I volunteered to make a quick trip up Sunday evening and back Monday evening to winterize the cabin. While on the road, but still in San Jose, I checked weather again and they had raised Tuesday's low to above freezing, but later in the week was still predicted to get into the high 20s so I continued my trip.

I stopped at Echo Summit on the way up and walked through the snowplay area parking lot ($20 to park here in winter, the former Echo Summit ski area) and found a couple of patches of snow under trees. Arriving after 9 PM, I had to turn on heat in the cabin. The low Monday morning was 32, but it was a beautiful day with a high of 72. Between working on the cabin and using a $25 gift certificate for Sushi Pier I won on Tahoe TV, our beagle and I went for a mountain bike ride (she dogs it, especially on the downhills) and to Nevada Beach where snow was visible to the South.
