Tough day on the hill:
As we were driving up the access road, I thought that a minor powder day was on tap. By the time we arrived at 8:30, there were 7-9 inches of fresh snow, but the wind was absolutely howling. With really bad visibility up top and avy bombs blasting in the background, they never got any of the other lifts open. During the first hour, I scored untracked along the trees on Al's Run and Inferno, but as you can see in the photo below, it was tough keeping my balance as it was a mixture of wind-pummeled powder with crusty/icy bumps and boilerplate.
Had a great lunch with Marketing Director Adriana Blake at the restaurant named after her grandmother. Her title doesn't reflect all the hats she wears there (dozens). She told us lots of interesting stories about Taos's evolution as a family-run resort now entering its third generation, and where it's headed. More in an upcoming article.
