Over 60" since 2/1/04 opens Taos top to bottom 100%. For those who want "skier only" skiing, Taos is the place (not my call)! Boarders can ride Angel Fire or Sipapu both about 35 minutes from the town of Taos. Closing date for Taos is April 11, 2004. In hopes that history repeats, Taos often gets great dumps in late March/early April.

More dining choices and entertainment in the town than at the Mountains. Also, lodging a little (lot in some cases) more reasonable. Email or post any questions on the Taos area. Ski Taos!

Taos is a steep, rocky mountain and has some of the lightest and driest snow anywhere. At high altitude and nearly all north-facing, the combined characteristics produce an extreme bias for late season for the best conditions. Right around now (mid-February) is the earliest anyone knowledgeable should consider advance booking.

The snow journalist organization to which I belong, http://nasja.org, (and whose hospitality I am currently enjoying in Chamonix) went to Taos this January when it was about 30% open. I'm sure they found many interesting things to write about Taos then, but its famous expert skiing wasn't one of them.
