After nearly a month of drought, it began to snow late Friday night in Telluride. Unlike Wednesday at Aspen, this was the more typical Colorado dry snow. It snowed about 3 inches overnight and another 4 during the day Saturday
Here's the same view of Plunge and the town of Telluride with the very welcome new snow.
I went through the motions of the NASJA race around 11AM, and then headed up to Chair 9 to check out the new snow. I was skiing the Rossi 9x Oversize, in a somewhat unusual 158cm., as the 165's were gone by the time I got to the demo van. They felt a little short, but not ridiculously so. As they were wide they did work OK in powder and in the chowder it was easy to maneuver your turns to hit the deepest clumps of loose snow.
It was no surprise to run into NASJA's best skiers with new snow at the bottom of Chair 9. At left is Christopher Nicolson, Whistler's marketing director. In the white jacket is Sun Valley photographer Karl Weatherly. Adam asked Karl lots of questions after hearing that he had done several photo shoots in Alaska.
