Telluride: Daylight Savings Schedule = New Spring Hours

Finally, a ski area does something about the new Daylight Savings Schedule and changes spring skiing hours appropriately.

Well done!

We're pleased to announce that all lift opening and closing times will move back 60 minutes starting Sunday, March 8, 2009.

It is clear that the vast majority of our guests, and employees, desire that the ski area make this change. I realize this negatively effects a certain number of guests and employees. This is a situation where we're trying to do the right thing for our customers and I appreciate everyone understanding the intent of the change.

Admittedly, not many ski areas I know of in Colorado are doing this. It will be interesting to see if others follow as a result of Telluride's initiative.

This is especially smart in Telluride's case - since it is a mostly North and West facing mountain. The West facing trails need time to soften.

I've been wondering about this for the past couple of seasons. It seems appropriate, particularly for the many areas that are west in their time zone. Utah areas tended to run some lifts to 4:30 anyway, and IMHO it should be 5PM during March Daylight Savings Time. Snowbird did do it once, when the LCC road was temporarily closed for a wet slide, to keep people on the hill instead of adding to the traffic jam.

Admin ran an article of Vail keeping everything open for 30 minutes later for the rest of the season (yesterday or today I think). I am surprised that more don't do it. I guess it costs more (minimally) and most would rather push you to the bar at the base of the mtn to make $ off you there with drinks & snacks.

In terms of light early March is the right time to go to DST. There's more than in late October, which has been the end of DST for a long time.

In terms of snow conditions it's a different story, and most areas should push the hours like Telluride is doing.

Thanks Congress for messing life up in the month of March. Seem you idiots never can do a damn thing right! :snowball fight:

One great thing Bush & the Republican Congress accoplished was extending "Daylight Savings". And they tried to extend it even longer - love it!

But ski areas need to adopt -- are they lambs!?

The 8/9AM time sucks in Telluride In March -- wait till 10am. I always do......

Good solution.
