Hi all,
Well, I need to disclose something before I get into this snow report -- my brother lives and works in this ski town. I have skied here over the last 10 years and know the mountain better than almost any.
Anyways, how is Telluride skiing?
I was last here during Thanksgiving -- and that period was truly amazing. All south faces had a at least 2ft + on them....Prospect Bowl opened early...18" almost everywhere. Best almost ever!!! Best every from ski records -- 82"!
However, very little snow since November. Good preservation.
Christmas...2004. The skiing patterns are a little weird.
What should be typical -- good coverage on Chair 9...scratchy on Chair 14 -- Gold Hill.
This is not the case this year. Really, really good coverage on Gold Hill. Everything open -- the cliff shot under the chair is all filled in ( I pay attention to it since I broke my hand on Gold Hill a few seasons ago).
However, the moguls on Chair 9 -- Spiral Stairs moguls are a little bare on their backsides. Apex Glade suffered a melt-off in early Dec. But....
The chutes near Prospect Bowl and Bald Mt. are very nice.
What is not open? The whole mountain is wide open! The resort does not open its south-facing intermediate runs off of C4 to make snow on the Terrain/Snowboard park.
Why? Telluride did not open their snowboard park until Feb 10 last year!!!! bad! Therefore, trails they need a little base are being pushed back until Jan so they can make a proper killer half-pipe.
Overall, Telluride needs a little snow. ]
Hoewever Telluride does not suffer from crowds....no more than 2 (maybe 5 at most!!!) min during Xmas. Groomers do not get skied off until maybe 3pm.
It's cold now---- 20f for high... -10F for low.
