The Alta porcupine

No not the Porcupine Restaurant in Cottonwood Heights, the scene of my rather humiliating pay-up of my election bet with Jamesdeluxe, but rather a real porcupine.

There are two ski areas that I know of that have a famous quilled resident: Telluride, and Alta. The Alta porcupine resides near the base of the Supreme lift, which not coincidentally is home to a state campground in summer. That means that this guy is not only bothered little by humans, but also he eats rather well year-round.

However, sometimes he gets a bit too friendly (pun fully intended! ):

While eating at the Steak Pit last night, a bunch of people got up to look out the window. I got up to see what the fuss was about, and it turns out it was (probably) the same porcupine you're referring to.

Admin, are you skiing at Alta tomorrow?

Not if you were at the Steak Pit. That's several miles away from this little guy's home.

I am, but I'll be tied up for a good chunk of the day in a private demo with Salomon trying out some super-secret stuff for next year. I'm not sure when they'll cut us loose -- maybe after lunch, maybe later than that. Skidog and I are supposed to meet up with the Salomon folks at GMD at 8:30 for breakfast, so you're welcome to drop in to say hi. If I can make turns with others later on in the day I certainly will.

I've also seen a cute little porcupine a couple of times near the base of the Snake Creek lift at Brighton. Fortunately not as ''friendly'' as the one in Admin's video, however!

Just to be clear, not my video, but rather one found on the net.
