The Gunks are 2 mile long cliff , with over 400 + climbs. One of the finest rock climbing cliffs in the world.
We spent the day climbing easy classics. The day was perfect ,equal to thigh deep day of blower.

I've never climbed the cliffs, but I have done the trail up on the ridge... it is a really nice view. There's a winery at the bottom somewhere, and its always fun to stop there after a hike.

The Gunks is one of my favorites. Love it when the laurel blooms and riding your mtb is like moving through a white tunnel.

If you're from the tri-state area and you've never been, well... go. Two beautiful lakes to cool off in during your ride, great views, waterfalls, gorgeous fauna, cliffs, spelunking in deep caves with year-round ice.

You guys are making me all misty-eyed. Lovely pics, thanks so much. I never climbed the 'Gunks, just hiked around a little, but I grew up outside of Poughkeepsie and went to Storm King School near Newburg. We climbed Storm King Mountain's faces or bouldered every day after school, as part of our organized-sport requirement. I wasn't built for the punishment of lacrosse or the speed required for soccer, but I sure could climb, traverse, haul rope and belay a partner. On rainy days we'd hike Black Rock Forest, and XC ski it in the winter.

Maybe I need to find a climbing group to join and get restarted.

Of course, here in Rochester, NY, there ain't hills handy with cliffs, so that's a bit of a problem. I'll stick to bicycling and kayaking for now, I guess.

Keep the pics coming so I can live vicariously through you!

Tom
