We woke to sunny skies. There was a little bit of snow overnight but nothing significant.
I’m doing a course with Snoworks who are a UK based mob. I did a course with them in Tignes last April.
There are 5 groups. Two touring groups and three ‘backcountry’ groups. Each group has between 4 and 6 skiers. For some reason they put me in the top group.
We started by skiing a very crunchy Chardonnay bowl. I was basically doing linked recovery turns. I was really struggling. I asked Euan the guide if I should be in one of the lower groups. With a smile he said in his Scottish accent “Don’t be a baby. You’re certainly not going to a lower group”.
Having discovered we needed to be skiing the north facing terrain Euan had us back on track. He commented that spring was here but he’s in denial so he wanted to get the last of the winter snow while he could. We did a long traverse over grass and rock patches into the Sache valley and scored some beautiful snow. So much so that we did that circuit three times. The long traverse gave us a chance to ski untracked snow. It was lovely to be in there without any other skiers.
There was lunch and more skiing and transceiver practice and more skiing. A really great day. Kylie joined the lowest group and a proud to say she survived even though she was well out of her comfort zone.
Some pics below. The guides do their best to get a couple of nice action shots and then send them at the end of the day.
^ A crunchy Chardonnay bowl.
^ A spectacular day. Small planes playing some games overhead.
^ The cold north facing snow was beautiful.
^Kylie in action.
A couple of me.
