To South Lake Tahoe, Via Sacramento highway 50

I have drove from Reno to South Lake Tahoe 5 times in my life, all with sunny sky's. Nice drive, took about an hour.
Due to much cheaper flights we are coming in VIA Sacramento.
We have a 4x4 Chevy trail blazer and will be leaving the air port around 2pm on a Thursday.
Google Maps show 2 1/2 hours drive. I understand if we hit a bad weather we are are in for closed highways or 4x4 restrictions.

Any words of advice of taking this route in?

With chain control it can take 4 hours. With your timing the 4WD will be a necessity. Both 50 and I-80 can grind to a halt with accidents in big Sierra storms. Thursday going up there could be tough with weather but not too bad for traffic.
