Tony, is this early Colorado dump ...

... more likely to melt off or more likely to have a real effect on snowpack, providing an early base and jump-starting the season?

Well, I'm not Tony. But we've gotten 2 feet here in Utah this week, and temps here in the Salt Lake Valley are expected to reach the 70s again starting Monday. Subtract 15 degrees for the Cottonwood Canyons ski resorts. I'd expect that the same warm air will be moving into Colorado this week, too.

99+% likely to melt off and have no effect on early season snowpack. Breckenridge got a 30 inch dump in October last year and still didn't open. Even Loveland only had its 2 snowmaking runs open then. Last year's great start in Northern/Central Colorado was due to 150+% of normal November/December snowfall.

Has any area in North America ever opened on September snowfall, much less stayed open? Not counting Timberline on a permanent snowbase.
