After years of skiing areas around it, I finally made it to Smuggs - another Eastern 2000'+ mountain off the list.
The day started in Plattsburgh with a pretty amazing ferry ride - strong winds pushing breakers over the bow all the way across Lake Champlain. Line of the day goes to the lady at the ferry toll booth at Cumberland Head. My buddy suggested that it looked windy, response - "Hey, it's free car wash day!"
After a cloudy, low ceiling day yesterday at Whiteface it was fun watching my buddy's reactions the first time driving up to a real lift serviced mountain. I kept assuring him that he'd successfully skied a similar sized mountain (Little Whiteface) the day before. We both ended up enjoying our day - great runs - lifts, not so much. I now have another mountain that I have to get back to in better conditions when some of the signature blacks are open.
Vermont Pub & Brewery in Burlington tonight, Sutton in the Eastern Townships of Quebec tomorrow.
