In another example of the many obscure Alps areas I’ve learned about from the road warrior Starli on Alpinforum, after reading about his visit to Tschiertschen on the way to Arosa Lenzerheide, I’d made a mental note to check it out when I was in the region 2.5 weeks later. A mostly overcast day, here's what it looks like under clear skies.
Good thing that I could follow other people after the free shuttle bus from the parking lot — there’s no sign telling you where the lifts are:
Even for a non-carnivore, I liked this advert for a little store that sells self-made organic dried meats:
A modest terrain area that skied bigger than it looks in this map with 3,400 vertical feet:
Lightly treed on the lower mountain:
I ate lunch at this place. Only after getting the check did I learn that they don’t accept credit cards (a beginner's mistake for Switzerland: always bring cash if you want to eat while on the actual ski area). The waiter insisted on comping my meal and beer “in the name of Swiss/American relations” (there was a big anti-Trump sign in the doorway).
Sit sleds:
Nice rolling groomers:
The valley run to the parking lot:
A nice bit of reconnaissance that paid off exactly two years later on an unforecasted powder day.
