We were lucky and high enough to get about 30"+ out of the "Election Day Storm" that plastered Mammoth and LCC. We were not lucky or high enough to hold onto it very long as it got quite warm and it "misted" as they like to say here in the Cascades.
The base area almost melted out but there was still a stiff firm layer above 6500 feet where the hill kicks up a little steeper.
Over the last few days we got real snow to fall again and suddenly it looks like they may get things going by next weekend. I went classic Nordic skiing today over to Todd Lake and the snow was great. Then I grabbed my rock AT skis and skinned up Thunderbird run, which is the main run with snowmaking. We usually have very dependable snow so I don't see them expanding the acreage covered by the snowmakers any time soon.
It's going to stay cold until the next storm series starting on Tuesday. They were trucking snow in from the parking lot and setting up the approach to the Pine Martin Lift so things are progressing.
Broken Top from near the base of Mt Bachelor.
A look down towards Pine Martin and the West Village base area. That was a nice little boot top freshie run over a firm base. Quite enjoyable. This run doesn't have any snowmaking coverage.
Makin' Bacon.
Looking up Thunderbird serviced by the Pine Martin Lift. Looks like we can ride and then chow next Thursday if all goes well.
