I'll try to post a few photos and comments in this thread over the next month to give any interested folks a little first hand scoop on how things are going in UT this February. If anyone else is skiing Utah this month and wants to add to the thread, feel free!
Feb 1, I skied Solitude on Feb 1 and it was a pretty good little powder day, perhaps 6" new for the half day I skied.
It was a Saturday and I drove up BCC in the morning with a friend around 745 AM. It took close to an hour to get through the traffic light beside 7-11 at mouth of the Canyon. Ugh. Once past the light the traffic flowed fine?!? I'm told LCC traffic wasn't as bad on same morning. The slow down might have been partially due to cops I saw standing at the intersection. Maybe they were checking for snow tires/chains, not sure? I have snow tires so they didn't stop or talk to me.
Skiing was good at Soli although upper mtn was closed for all or part of the day. I spent the majority of my time on the little old Sunrise chair at lookers left edge of lower trail layout, both these photos from Sunrise terrain.
My tele buddy.
I heard Feb 2 was pretty good too, but with poor vis, I did not ski Feb 2-4. The 3rd and 4th were close to 70 degs in the valley and above 50 at Snowbird. The snow got fried and I heard it skied like glue.
Feb 5, I skied 9-noon this day. Seasonal temps today. Groomers were quite firm although Chips had some decent sugary snow surfaces. Much of the offpiste was coral reef, but there was good wind drift snow in the vicinity of Silver Fox. Temps were around 35-40 degs and somewhat windy. I think it got sunnier after I left. No traffic, easy free parking. Hopefully 4-8 inches new snow coming over next 48 hrs.
This is a view from Silver Fox area in Peruvian Gulch. Peruvian chair to right.
Looking up Silver Fox.
