There's a snow advisory for the Wasatch Mountains today above 7,000 feet with 2-6 inches predicted.

There's always been that sort of talk around here for as long as I can remember. While my initial thought was to doubt the veracity of that "memo" I'm nonetheless following up with sources to inquire.

The road proposal seems an expensive answer to a question few people have asked. Lift connections would be much cheaper and would create the Euro-style ski circus the Utah marketers want. I'm sure that's the way it works in the Alps.

Locals would never use these tunnels....but visitors from Park City would.

This is similar to Europe in a way....

I think the Alps work as private-public partnerships or simply public works projects.

I am fascinated by the Euro ski model vs. the American ski model. It's like Airbus vs. Boeing. But that does not capture it.

Euro resorts generally lack the real estate investment arm of the American/Canadian way....often because they have the infrastructure already or did it in the Euro high growth time after the wars in the 60s/70s.

As part of a municipal budget, a few million for high-tech lifts seems feasible for Euro resorts.

I do not understand everything. But alternative models are interesting.

As enticing a prospect as lift-linked Utah resorts is, entrenched opposition -- ranging from environmental groups like Save Our Canyons to the local backcountry skier community -- will never let that happen, IMO.

I hate environmental groups - being a Bay Area Liberal. They are more like wealth preservationists. Not really caring about the environment.

I want to see RED STATE UTAH ram it down their throats. Build the roads.

Could this be the start of our base? I snapped the two photos below when the clouds finally broke at 4:30 pm local time, long-distance from West Valley.

I also finally reached my source. While there is some misinformation in that link, there are elements of truth to it as well. I'm putting together a news item for publication this evening.

Nice strip malls.

Salt Lake is so sexy.

Not untrue, but actually those are office/light industrial buildings in West Valley in the foreground.
