Utah weather about to do a 180

We'll see diminishing cloud cover and warm temps in the hills. 8000' and 10k temps will reach to the low to mid-30's today with gradually slowing northwesterly winds. We're likely to see a few inches out of a quick storm early Friday ahead of the all-out regime change in the overall weather pattern. It's about time. Strong, strong pre-frontal winds kick in Friday night ahead of Saturday morning's cold front. The storms appear to be stacked up.

Full conditions today... the National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning that will remain in effect until 5 pm Sunday, with heavy snow and strong northerly winds creating wild winter conditions. Snow totals of a foot or more expected by 5 pm, with lightning and intense precipitation rates of 2 to 4 inches per hour possible around frontal passage. The winds will shift to the northwest this morning, and remain in the 20 to 30 mph range, with gusts to 50 at the 10,000' level. Gusts to 70 mph are possible across the highest peaks. Temperatures will fall throughout the day, into the low teens to single digits by evening. Periods of snow tonight, with storm totals of 16 to 24” by Sunday afternoon, with temperatures near zero. A cold and unsettled pattern, with more snow, will continue through much of next week.

It's positively ugly out there right now. With the weather as it is, there's no need to push my knee for this. I'll wait until this afternoon or even tomorrow to try it out.

The front arrived here at the mouth of Parley's Canyon about 15 minutes ago. The howling winds quit abruptly, dropping to dead calm, and it immediately began to snow in earnest. It's puking tiny flakes.

I just got a call from Bobby (using someone else's phone, of course -- the boy doesn't own one) who says that it's puking graupel at Goldminer's right now. He just kept saying over and over again, "Get up here!" Windy in the base area (it's southeast of me, so the front hasn't yet arrived there), and he can't see two towers up the hill.

I'm with you Marc. Tomorrow should be terrific. I don't like not seeing where I'm going in the open areas and cover in some of the tree areas is just a bit low. That should be remedied by this storm. I guess I am getting spoiled living so close to Alta-Bird.
