Statement as of 5:37 AM MDT on October 24, 2009

... A cold storm system will impact the area Monday night through
Tuesday night...

A strong storm system will move across the Great Basin and impact
Utah and southwest Wyoming for the early part of the upcoming
week. Precipitation could begin as early as Monday afternoon over
far northern Utah with snow levels above 8500 ft. A cold front
will then push across northern Utah Monday night and into
southern Utah by late Tuesday afternoon. A period of intense
precipitation can be expected behind the cold front... with snow
levels lowering to the valley floors across northern and central
Utah.

Accumulating snowfall will be possible across much of northern and
central Utah... as well as portions of southern Utah above 5000
ft. Although valley accumulations are expected to remain light at
this time... many of the valley areas will receive the first
snowfall of the season with this storm. Mountains could receive in
excess of 10 inches of new snowfall before the storm winds down on
Wednesday.

In addition to the snow... much colder temperatures are expected
behind the cold front. All but the lowest valleys of far southern
Utah will be below freezing Tuesday night and Wednesday night.

Monitor the latest forecasts from the National Weather Service or
your local media for updates on this upcoming storm.

Has Utah not been freezing cold for the last 3-5 weeks? We're already on our 4th snowstorm of Oct here in Denver metro (supposed to be tonight). With a 5th predicted for mid-week. It's been almost exactly like late Nov/early Dec over here for the last month plus. Crazy cold for this time of year...

No. These last few systems you've been on the cold side and we've been on the warm side.

skidog & I booted & skinned up to armpit gate on baldy shoulder today. to get a good look at the snowpack in collins gulch. not much of an issue above watsons . frozen corn window paine smooth with about three inches of grauple on top. didn't hit a thing.we skied grave yard down to main st. to watsons main st. was worth the hike in it's self. not alot of people out there think there discouraged by the looks in the base area.but that's going to change in the near future. ow and something i'm not too proud to report but snowbird was making snow on big emmma today !!! thought first tracks should be first with the info sorry no pictures.

from the looks of the radar returns this morning this storm isn't going to put down all that much snow in the Wasatch. I'm thinking 2-5 inches at best with this first wave, then let's see what happens tonight. We've had some heavy snow in Park City this morning but that only lasted about 30 min and didn't put down more than half an inch. The one to two foot call by the NWS seems a bit crazy in my opinion. Maybe the Northern side of the far eastern Uintas could pick up close to 20 inches.

That being said if we still pick up 5 inches by this afternoon I'll be at Alta!

It's even snowing here on the East Bench of Salt Lake City - an inch or two thus far:

After slowing momentarily it's now puking big, fluffy corn flakes:

And Jason, note: no hot tub.

Coming down now at an unreal rate for this time of year. Wind has shifted direction from southerly to northwesterly behind the front.

Dumping up in PC also, about 3 or so inches. Packing up the gear and am headed over to alta!!!
