UtahSLC Lodging

Good evening all,
i am making my annual short guys trip out to utah next month and at this point really only have one question, and that is lodging in SLC. It is funny because i do not post much but was looking at my first posts about Utah 7 years ago prior to ever been and as always all the advice here is always spot on. now for this 3 day weekend there are no new resorts to hit so i am ready to take the general consensus opinions from here and stay in SLC (my past 4 trips have been eden moose hollow twice, pcmr, and in sandy.) i love staying up in eden but as you know that is not ideal spot for day tripping. So the only real question i have is any pros or cons that you know of for SLC hotels, i will more than likely look at the marriott, hyatt places, hamptons all the ones i have points for. i am sure they are all great but wouldnt feel right if i didnt hit up the local experts on someting they might have heard recently. we might be upto 4 or 5 guys which if we are, i am going vrbo and looking for house. thank you so much!

Jasoncapecod recently stayed at the Marriott Downtown so I'll let him comment. The downtown core, though, is now much livelier than it was even several years ago.

If you're that many guys, however, I'd think that a house rental in Cottonwood Heights is the way to go.

I spend every Christmas at the Hilton downtown, great hotel and easy access to everywhere north and south. With that said a house in Cottonwood heights probably is cheaper and just more fun for a group of guys. I found a cheap 4br at the Racquetball club (or something like that) for like 200 a night a few years back.

Cripp,
We stayed at Residence Inn Salt Lake City - City Center 285 West Broadway (300 S),
Salt Lake City, Utah 84101 USA Phone: 1-801-355-3300 Fax: 1-801-355-0440 ..

great location , easy access to I15 walking distance to the mall and a stones throw away to 2 brew pubs.. ..during Xmas week the price was 160 / night for a 2 bedroom suite that included a great breakfast with free indoor parking..
under a 1/2 hr to the cottonwood resorts..

If you have points for Hampton Inns, that means Hhonors, which you can use at Homewood Suites. There's one in Sandy, very convenient to the Cottonwood Canyons, with an indoor pool. There's also one downtown, which is less convenient for the CCs, but a bit closer to other areas. That one doesn't have a pool, but does have an outdoor hottub. We've stayed in both, and they were very comfortable and close to all kinds of restaurants, and have a decent free breakfast and light dinner including wine and beer (albeit not very good wine and beer!) weekdays. Homewood suites is unusual in that they actually have 2-bedroom units, which can be a good deal, but I don't think are available with points. But depending on how many guys are coming, I agree with Admin that you may want to look at renting a house. We've done that when we were there with another couple. Take a look at VRBO.com or Airbnb.com.

If you have enough going to rent a house, then you might want to think about renting in BCC, which still gives you access to multiple areas (albeit slightly longer drive if you go outside BCC) but with a more alpine environment. SLC is a great place to live, but for me it always feels like a bit of a downer (no pun intended) to come back into the city after a day in the mountains. This site is pretty good http://www.mountmajestic.com/big_cotton ... nyon.shtml and there are several on VRBO also. I’m looking at the same options for a guys trip in March.

I have a similar sensibility. One area that may be an unusual but interesting choice for house rental is Summit Park. It has a very alpine feel, with evergreens and cabin-type housing. It is right off of I-80 and puts you in great shape to head either to PC, Cottonwood resorts or even Snowbasin. Wouldn't make sense for the Cottonwood-committed but if you want to sample Wasatch front and back, you'll be well situated.

My friend Bryan owns a 2-BR, 2-Bath condo at Solitude Village (a two-minute walk to the Apex lift) that he rents out. It has king beds plus a pull-out couch. PM me if interested.

Thank you everyone. The other 3 guys that im with have never been to powder and/or snowbasin so even though i know it isnt the boards consensus on a short utah trip, i will be staying in eden again at moose hollow. which by the way, you cant beat the price for the luxury you get there. I did leave from there last year when Brighton was reporting 10 and powder had 0 so its not the end of the world if we have to chase it down. Prelimnary schedule will be day at powder day at snowbasin then maybe on monday we go snowbird/brigton/solitude. Thank you all for the suggestions and next year, definetly staying in SLC or at base of lcc/bcc plus i get to goto shooting star again so that is always a plus. lets hope for more snow in the next 3 weeks.
