Thought I'd give an update on how us front range kids are doing, in case anyones wondering how the i70 mountains in Colorado are. Most places are reporting something like 125% average base depths, and a big storm last week brought over 3 feet to Vail though progessively less as you get closer to the front range - A basin got less than a foot. Vail is 100% open and had a bunch of snow in the trees, although fresh tracks weren't easy to find. Blue Sky Basin was almost totally tracked out, but some trails like Steep and Deep still had a few sections of untracked powder. There was even enough snow to do some pretty big cliffs in the back bowls (~15ft). The best runs were had dropping in the trees on the front side around game creek bowl, where ppl seemed less likely to be tree skiing so it wasn't all tracked out.

So it's not Tahoe or Utah but the skiing right now in Colorado is still phenomenal. Still waiting for the good stuff to open at abasin though...

There's a very sharp demarcation between southern and western Colorado (as defined on my website http://bestsnow.net and progress reports http://bestsnow.net/seas05.htm ), which has epic conditions after the big dumps of the past 3 weeks, and the northern and central areas, which are mostly average or slightly below. Aspen and Vail/Beaver Creek are the in-between areas at the moment, below average before the recent storms, now above average.
