VAIL, Colo. – March 17, 2010 – As announced last fall, Vail Mountain extended its operating dates for the 2009-2010 season for one week from the originally planned date to Sunday, April 18, 2010. Operations during the final week of skiing and snowboarding on Vail Mountain will be limited.

Beginning Monday, April 12, guests will have access to the mountain from Golden Peak, Vail Village and Lionshead. More than 2,500 acres of skiable terrain will be accessible by the following lifts through Sunday, April 18:

•Avanti Express Lift (#2)
•Wildwood Express Lift (#3)
•Mountaintop Express Lift (#4)
•High Noon Lift (#5)
•Riva Bahn Express Lift (#6)
•Born Free Express Lift (#8)
•Northwoods Express Lift (#11)
•Gopher Hill Lift (#12)
•Vista Bahn Express Lift (#16)

Lift operating hours are posted at the base of all open lifts. Guests must continue to obey posted closures and observe the Colorado Ski Safety Act and Your Responsibility Code for their safety and the safety of other guests.

FYI Mt. Bachelor's cutback in operating hours and lifts open starts April 19. So still in full operation for the week of April 12-16.

So basically only most of the frontside open. This wouldn't concern me personally, though it may for some. Why? I wouldn't bother skiing Vail that late in April anyway.

Vail is a good 1,000 to nearly 2,000 feet lower at the top of the mtn than copper, breck, abasin, loveland, winter park, etc... I'd rather have at least a shot at dry powder or chalk at the places with better altitude...

I was hoping to show 3 friends the bowls, they have never skied Vail, or Colorado for that matter. Out of 4 days skiing out there, I plan only one at Vail as there is a band some people want to see. The other 4 days will be a mix breck, abasin, loveland or somthing like that. I wonder if Vail will reduce lifts rates with mostly the front side open? It's tricky with lifts out there, I don't see any 3 day passes that inculde Vail along with the abasin, breck, keystone like I got last year? I have not looked in a week or so, so maybe prices have changed. I do see some cupons on Ebay for loveland.
I just hope the storms keeps rolling thru, so far so good

Well as I look at the list again high noon will be open (#5). That is the triple serving the original sun up and sun down bowls... So you can show them a bit of the bowls, just not all of them (Hit them by mid- morning).

As for Tickets I would certainly hope the day price is a lot lower than the current $98 for only 50% open terrain at Vail. King Soopers usually will sell about $5 off from walk up window pricing. Or you can try http://www.liftopia.com/; not for Vail, but abasin. loveland, copper, winter park, etc.. all are on there this season. I suspect Vail might be forced to go that route in a couple more years as well, but not yet. I don't have the Vail Inc pass this year, but those passes come with several $59 'buddy' lift tickets loaded on to them. If you could find someone who has not used all of theirs... (not easy to do, but just a thought).

Latest storm should be hitting mtns already and Denver in a few hours.

Thanks to all that great snow the past month!!!

Pretty lame that they aren't opening blue sky basin, that is IMHO the best terrain Vail has to offer.
