Very Hot + Cool California: desert & skiing in July

Here is a picture summary of my June 27-July 6 2006 vacations.

Part 1:

June 27:
Leaving the heat in Ottawa to arrive in the HEAT and 105F in Las Vegas.

Late arrival in Vegas. I thought I was crazy walking around with my ski gear in this weather. Walked along the strip for a few hours and placed a beat on France against Brazil in the World Cup. :mrgreen: After one evening, I had enough with Vegas.

June 28:

Next day drove to Hoover Dam then along Lake Mead and the Valley of Fire. After being stuck in traffic for a few hours driving back to Vegas and finally drove a few hours through desert wasteland.

Final destination: Mammoth Lakes.

Part 2:

Mammoth Lakes from June 29 to July 4.

6 days of amazing summer skiing.

Besides the great skiing, I did a bit of sightseeing. What's else when the skiing ends at 1pm. :wink:

July 4th

Last day of the season + July 4th = A heck of a Party!!! \/

PART Y : 4

Part 5 and mostly July 5th pictures. Last full day of vacation. Flying back early next morning from Vegas to Montreal then Ottawa.

July 4:

After the late last run. A drive to Furnace Creek in Death Valley. Arrived at 10pm with a cold 105F. The day's high was 119F.

Storm clouds and lightning can be seen during the drive.

July 5:

Early checkout to go some quick sightseeing before the temps get too hot.

Badwater Basin, Artists Palet, Devil's Golf Course, Zabriskie Point, Dante's ridge.

After that drive all the way to Vegas to collect my winnings from that beat on the World Cup. :lol:

the real question here is , how do convince your wife to let you go so many ski trips... do tell :lol:

Nice call on Winter Park. Not exactly on a line from Denver to Vegas, but trail configuration looks right.
